The day your braces come off or you complete wear of your final aligner tray is an exciting day. But that doesn’t mean your orthodontic treatment is complete! In order to ensure your smile stays as beautiful as the day your braces were removed, you must wear a retainer. Without a retainer, your teeth will shift back to their previous locations, undoing all the hard work you’ve put in.
Norwalk Orthodontist at Westwalk Orthodontic Group, we know that life sometimes throws us some curve balls. Dog got a hold of your retainer and mangled it beyond recognition? Retainer get accidentally thrown away? Broken or damaged retainer? Don’t worry, we’re here to help. With our Retainers for Life program, you never have to worry about your teeth shifting because you’ve lost or broken your retainer.
For a small copay, our patients can receive up to four replacement retainers per year for life. But it’s always a good idea to follow some guidelines to keep your retainer safe:
- Keep your retainer away from pets, especially dogs. Dogs don’t just like homework – they like retainers, too!
- Never wrap your retainer in a napkin or place it on a cafeteria tray. This is a great way to accidentally throw it away.
- Never microwave or boil your retainer and keep it out of places that may get too hot.
- If your retainer is out of your mouth, be sure it is in its case.
